Zafira and The Resistance ظافرة والمقاومة
ُ
This artwork is part of the Set Design for the play "Zafira and The Resistance" presented by the New Arab American Theater Works and is playing at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis from October 11 - 27, 2019 at the Dowling Studio. |
This is a digital sketch made by scanning and assimilating multiple hand drawings of the various details shown. This sketch was then divided into 15 sections, each sections was projected onto 4'x8' primed Luan panels. The artists outlined the drawings on the panels and hand painted them with acrylic paints with her friend Willie Nour and her cousin Latifah Al-Sweigh. The final painting is a replica of the digital one except that the olives ended up black and the calligraphy at the lower left was omitted. And except for the fact that digital colors are not exactly those of real life paint. The panels were then sealed by water soluble polyurethane and carried to the Guthrie. There, the theater staff put them together and screwed them to the floor. They were then retouched lightly by the artists.
