Ana 2004
Ana takes its title from Ana, the mother of the Virgin Mary. According to Islamic tradition, Ana dedicated what was in her womb to God and was surprised to bear a daughter; she prayed that her child and offspring be delivered from evil and accepted by God. Mary (Maryam) is the only woman named in the Qur’an; this work presents Ana, Mary, and Jesus as a continuum—a tree of life—whose central form is echoed around the periphery.
