Minneapolis, MN, Sep. 2024—Rosalux Gallery is thrilled to announce its upcoming exhibition, Sketching in Cyberspace: My Little Secrets, featuring the unpublished work of Artist Hend Al-Mansour. The exhibition will be on view from Sep. 7 to Sep. 29, 2024, with an opening reception on Sep. 14 and a Middle Eastern drumming concert on Sunday, Sep. 22, 3-4 PM, at 315 W 48th St, Minneapolis, MN 44419.
"Sketching in Cyberspace: My Little Secrets" explores the dynamic relationship between digital technology and traditional art forms. Bridging the digital and analog gap, Al-Mansour presents her initial digital designs that later materialized into physical art pieces. Unshamingly, the artist takes the viewers into the secretive world of fast, precise, and size-flexible artmaking, where digital drafts are the origins. "I realized that the process is an art form by itself. Some of the digital sketches never made it to the physical world," Al-Mansour said, "why not exhibit them as they are?"
Visitors will also encounter animations. During this journey, the artist discovered a love for moving images and started producing animations with narratives based on paintings and backgrounded by Islamic geometric designs.
Hend Al-Mansour is an accomplished Arab Minnesotan artist working primarily in installations, screen-printing, and murals. She draws inspiration from Islamic art and Arabic aesthetics. Gender discrimination and social injustice shape her themes of highlighting women's power and their equal participation in cultural production.
Al-Mansour holds a Master of Fine Arts and a Master of Art History from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and the University of St. Thomas, respectively. She received multiple MRAC and MSAB grants and the McKnight and Jerome Fellowships. She is a member of the Rosalux Gallery, the Interfaith Artists Circle in the Twin Cities, and the national collective The Habibtis.
