My Pink House – 2016–2018
A shrine‑like installation honoring the lived complexity of a young Saudi woman, blending Arab architectural forms, Bedouin Sadu motifs, Islamic geometry, and pop‑culture imagery to reflect her faith, aspirations, and self‑determined spirit.
Concept and Theme
My Pink House is part of the Mihrab series, a body of shrine‑like installations that honor Arab women through architecture, portraiture, and symbolic interiors. This work portrays a young Saudi woman whose life bridges faith, independence, and contemporary identity. Its printed‑fabric walls, full‑scale screen‑printed portrait, and a half‑dome constructed from an aluminum frame and printed fabric create a sacred chamber centered on a prayer rug marked with geometric patterns and math equations—signifying both her spiritual grounding and her engineering ambitions. Bedouin Sadu motifs, Islamic geometric patterns, and the unexpected presence of Tinker Bell reflect her cultural inheritance, personal taste, and the imaginative freedom she seeks. The installation’s vivid pink palette—her favorite color—underscores her optimism and individuality, transforming the space into a vessel for her story: a woman navigating tradition, modernity, and the desire to define her own path.
