Fatimah in America III

Solo Show

Northcutt-Steele Gallery, University of Montana , Billings.  Octobeer 8,  2010

Shemma, the Moroccan, Araqsan, the Somali, Haneen the Jordanian, and Leili, the Persian have one thing in common. They all came from Middle East to live in America. Each has a unique life story, a distinctive personality and a tough challenge. In ” Fatimah in America” Al-Mansour makes portraits of these women in the form of three-dimensional rooms made out of screen printed fabrics installed in a space that is analogous to Islamic architecture. Each room carries the essence of its name sake. The rooms are embeded in a larger architecture with arches, columns and domes. This will be the third phase of this work in- progress. Fatimah in America -1 was exhibited in 2005 in St. Paul, MN. Fatimah in America-2 was exhibited in St. Pieter, MN 2007. For Fatimah in America-3, Al-Mansour will add a fifth room for a new woman and more art within the previous rooms and the overall structure. Al-Mansour is currently looking for a new home for Fatimah.
